Gmail is removing POP collection and "Gmailify" for third party accounts

From January 2026 Gmail will stop Collecting e-mail on desktop / laptop (WEB) machines via the POP protocol. Paid workspace accounts are unaffected.

You will still be able to use Gmail to send mail from your domain address using SMTP, it's only the collection of email using POP and "Gmailify" that is affected.

Email addresses can still be added to the Gmail mobile App as it uses IMAP for collecting and synchronising mail. However, the mobile app is a standalone version and changes made will be stored on your domain server not on Gmail's server so will not transfer to the web-based version.

To continue reading incoming messages on a desktop account (web version) you will need to login to your cPanel® account and set up automatic forwarding of your domain-based email to your Gmail address.

Forwarding email will ensure the following is maintained: -

  • One inbox on all devices
  • Your domain‑based “From” address
  • Gmail’s spam filtering
  • Full web and mobile consistency

If you need any help with the above or would like to consider setting up an email client such as Outlook or Thunderbird, just get in touch. During the changes If you think that you have missed collecting any mail you can log in to your domain mail from your website where you will find all your email safely stored.
